Every year, the interior trade show DesignEx alternates between Sydney and Melbourne. It is a chance for those working in the interior industry to migrate to one place to check out the latest products and collections from exhibitors in the architecture, bathroom, kitchen, surface, textile, furniture, lighting and stone sectors. This year saw me strap on a my comfy kicks and pounding the exhibition pavement to see all the new man space relevant products and services. Note, all these pics were taken on my iPhone, not my fancy camera. My hands needed to be free for the the amount of catalogues that were collected, and takeaway coffee to maintain concentration and energy!
Wooden furniture took my eye this year, with beautifully crafted tables and chairs on the showing. Greens and blues were also a running trend which set off the natural wood finishes beautifully.
Lighting is always a favourite of mine. The collections that took my eye were constructed from a simple combination of materials – ceramic, wood, cork, brass and leather.
It’s all in the details, especially in DMC projects and anything that is created a little left of centre gets my vote. These quirky light switches are fun, the herringbone floating flooring is a great alternative the standard wooden floorboards and the homeware accessories are great man space additions. Practical AND cool!
Frank Lloyd Wright has many wise words and this quote is particularly relevant to the quality over quantity philosophy I am always banging on about.
These photos above are just a snap shot of all the fantastic new collections and new industrial designers I saw and met with. I’ve got plenty of catalogues and cards sort through to add to the ever growing supplier list. Speaking of which…I better get to it!
