I would like to introduce you to a home product that may just improve the way you sleep, forever. Combine this awesome product with the philosophy of ‘laid-back luxury’ and we have ourselves a brand that is right up the Designer Man Cave alley. In The Sac is a collection of pure bed linen that also solves the problem of overheating and sweating during the night which can cause uncomfortable, restless sleeps. Sound familiar? Knowing this is a common issue for men, I HAD to share this fabulous Sydney based company with you…
The In The Sac founders have a combined 40 years experience in the Australian textile industry. The dynamic duo from Martin & Savage Textile Wholesalers and Weavers is made up of Belinda Gallo (a textile buyer with a long standing love and experience of fashion and fabrics), alongside David Tinworth (3rd generation of Martin & Savage’s 96 year old business). They use their experience and contacts to produce a range of bedding of pure linens in different weights and textures that are manufactured in the finest, softest finishes possible.
Plenty of planning, trialing and perfecting went on for two years before In The Sac confidently launched into the market. It was well worth the time investment though, because their bedding has been well received and the company is in their fourth year of trading and is going from strength to strength.
One of their signature specialties is their perfectly designed experience that customers get, sleeping in the two different weights of linen. Understanding the market well, knowing that people have different preferences of their bedding, you can purchase sets or individual sheets to suit you (and your man space).
The designs are uncomplicated and chosen to reflect the natural character and beauty of the fabrics from The Netherlands. The colours are a balance of a classic, neutral scheme and new ranges that are regularly being released that are on fashion and interior trends.
How does it compare to high thread count Egyptian cotton sheets?
I will be the first one to put my hand up and admit I thought 1000 thread count sheets were the best thing you could buy. Co-founder Bel educated me on the difference: “Linen fibres are much longer and stronger therefore the first thing you notice is linen sheets are “quieter” to sleep in as the fibres are smoother. Unlike cotton, linen sheets do not “rustle”.
If you wanted to make a waterproof fabric out of cotton you would use a very high thread count and a very tight construction. In linen, because of its strength, we use a lower thread count and a looser construction, enabling the linen sheets to breath. Linen will hold 20% of its own weight in moisture before it feels damp, that’s why people always say linen feels fresh and cool.”
Why does In The Sac linen come from The Netherlands?
“The best linen flax comes from Western Europe. Linen likes a cold moist climate and the conditions there are ideal. When we started In the Sac we wanted to use the best linen available as well as having as much control of the process from harvest to bedroom as we could.
Using our connections through the textile industry, we were introduced to a company who has been growing linen in The Netherlands for over 100 years. We have it spun and woven on a custom basis to enable us to have an end product which is not only exclusive to In The Sac, but made to our own specifications which we think are ideal for linen sheets.”
Why has this bedding been especially popular with men?
“Our sheet sets are quite unique as we are the only company who have combined two different weights of linen in the one set. So imagine a lighter weight linen you would wear as a shirt, we use this linen for our top sheets to lie over the top of your body. Then we use a heavier weight linen to take your bodies weight for our fitted sheets and pillow cases (like trousers!).
The combination of these different weights is what we call our “Laid-back Luxury” and is perfect for both our climate and lifestyle. Because linen loves moisture it absorbs perspiration at a rapid rate. It creates a self-cooling effect, as the moisture is then released to the outside air by evaporation ideal for the boys.”
Is it easy to care for?
Your linen sheets can be as fuss free as you wish. Washing is as much about giving them a drink and revitalising the linen yarns, as it is about keeping them clean. Gentle machine wash them as normal and if you’re not too keen on ironing, let gravity do the work for you by laying them flat or hang them over a line straight from the machine. The other perk to it being a natural fibre? They dry MUCH quicker the cotton sheets.
We have produced our pure linen with pleasure in mind, not hard work and by caring for them in this simple manner they have been designed to bring you hours of laid-back luxury in bed.
In a nutshell? In the Sac produce a beautiful, high quality 100% pure linen bedding range that would be suitable for any man space bedroom. Well worth checking out gents, especially if you are looking to maximize your quality of sleep!
