Richard Branson is an entrepreneurial god and I have an incredible amount of admiration for his drive, spirit and approach to business. Plus, the guy owns and resides on an entire Carribean island that he bought when he was 28. How awesome is that!? For those of you who are looking to up the travel anti (and be willing to drain your bank balance a little in the process), I want to share the options for luxury holidays at Richard Branson properties. I stayed in one of Mr Branson’s destinations (you can read about my experience here) and each year, I am sent a glossy catalogue that I drool over, with all the current Virgin holiday options…
The Lodge is a gem in Verbier in the Swiss Alps and if it is not booked exclusively (for up to 18 people), at the bargain price of $165,00 for a week in winter, then you can book a room at this chalet when it runs as an open hotel, all year round. It has all the luxuries and access to everything you could possibly need is included. Snowboard by day (the lift is a 1 min drive away), return for a massage and then enjoy a four-course meal with wine from the impressive cellar. Amazing.
Ulusaba is a Private Game Reserve located in the western sector of the Sabi Sand Reserve. On the game drives traversing over 13,500 hectares in open Land Rovers, the surrounding wildlife you can spot include lions, buffalos, leopards, elephants and rhinos. If you book a cliff lodge exclusively (5 adults and 4 children), it comes with your own chef, open bar, twice daily private safari tours and spa. Although for $7,000 a night, I would expect it to!
The Kasbah Termdot in the Moroccan Atlas Mountains was my first taste of holidaying Richard Branson style and it was everything I hoped it would be. The views are spectacular, the grounds offer many options and pockets for relaxing and dining on Moroccan food overlooking the valley isn’t something I will forget in a hurry. This is a place I would love to return to.
At Mahali Mzuri you’re so close to the action you could join in and play with the wildlife, although they don’t recommend it! There are 12 luxury tented suites so when you are not out on safari or guided walks, you can enjoy beautiful meals, unwind by the infinity pool and be pampered with a spa treatment.
If you haven’t added at least one of these beautiful parts of the world to your bucket list, I’ll be very surprised.
When planning your next holiday and if in doubt, maybe you should take the advice of Sir Richard Branson’s famous mantra: “screw it, let’s do it”.
