Adding personal touches to your home takes your interior from either feeling empty and lifeless, or mimicking a furniture showroom. Your home, like you, is unique, one of a kind and it should reflect who you are and how you like to live. It is your story of passions and memories not only for you to appreciate daily, but for your guests to step into, admire and feel like they are a part of your world. I’m not talking about clutter and dust collectors, because I am the first advocate of minimising things to clean around the house…there are plenty of better things in life to do and enjoy! However you’d like to think of this, whether it be a ‘feminine touch’, ‘the finishing touches’ or adding a level of ‘sensitivity to your home’, here are 3 simple ways to add a homely touch to your man space…
TURNING EVERYDAY ITEMS INTO SOMETHING DECORATIVE
It’s time to think outside the square (and cupboard) and turn your stored items into something that is great to look at. Whether it be your alcohol stash and glassware or pantry items, these items can be given a new lease on life. The key to displaying dry food items is to have uniformity to your jars. They can be different sizes, but should all be the same brand. I’m not sure about you, but seeing all my delicious food on display would inspire me to cook more often. Same goes for the drinks display, so be careful on the temptation there ;)
ADD SOME LIFE AND GREENERY
This doesn’t have to involve a bunch a flowers, although that said, I know plenty of men who appreciate fresh flowers around the home. If you are looking for something that will last the distance, low maintenance plants are the way to go. Or, a few sprigs from a tree or florist will do the trick (and is more of a masculine touch than a feminine one!).
WHAT HAVE YOU GOT HIDDEN AWAY?
There is a good chance that you have decorative items stashed away in your cupboards. Before you go shopping, have a hunt around your home to see if you have anything that could be brought out of the darkness of your storage. It could be an item you bought on your travels, photos, something your Mum gave you one birthday, an item you inherited from a grandparent!? It is all these personal items that anchor the memories around your house to make it yours.
Whether you are a minimalist or a hoarder, there is a happy medium to add your personality to your home. If you are looking for some inspiration and/or don’t want to pound the pavements of shops, I have gathered some online shop options below, that have simple, masculine options…
